Since the aim of IVAO is to provide a highly realistic aviation environment, we encourage pilots to file correct IVAO flight plans ; the IvAp pilot client now includes a realistic flight plan form that is very similar to that used by ICAO.

1 IVAO tutorials

The IVAO HQ Training department provides a Flight Plan page that shortly explains how to fill in a flight plan. The French training department has also written some tutorials for French users:

book The french tutorial by (version 3.0) explains in detail all the necessary data that are necessary for making an IvAp flight plan and how to generate and check a flight plan ; it also includes several analysed examples(Stephan Chedlivili, Anthony Santus and Hervé Sors).
book The Transatlantic flight tutorial by Stephan Chedlivili explains how to prepare and execute a transatlantic flight (route, meteorology, embarked fuel, etc)

book Some useful piece of information with regard to international (ICAO based) and US flight plans (VFR, IFR and composite flight plan instructions) is available on the american siteAtlas Aviation.

Some online application programsoffer an automatic production of IFR flight plans :

book RouteFinder(free area) is one of the most powerful even if it has some limitations Jeppesen ;
book Eurocontrol (Central Flow Management Unit) provides an IFPS validation system which enables to submit EuroControl airspace flight plans to a dedicated test system for validation using either a structured editor texte libre ;
book FMS commercial aircraft(PMDG, PSS),
book FliteStar produce accurate flight plans but are expensive applications which are mainly used for real flight preparation. FliteStar Jeppesen)
book  FSNavigator)is a fully integrated plug-in for FS2004 that provides navigational map, flight planner as well as a flight management system and several other integrated functions. Making accurate flight plans will require that you have up to date navigation databases (AIRAC cycles)
