PAR Approaches: Ready for Blind Landings?

Does a voice-controlled ILS ring a bell? It does for military pilots...

On Saturday, October 10, from 19:00 UTC to 22:00 UTC, the Special Operations Department invites you to test yourself on PAR approaches. And what better way to spice up the exercise than reduced visibility? Some fog is on the agenda — otherwise, it wouldn't be much fun!

For the occasion, the airfields of Landivisiau, Lorient Lann-Bihoué, and Lanvéoc will be open to you!

PILOTS

We invite you to conduct an IFR or VFR flight to Landivisiau (LFRJ), Lorient Lann-Bihoué (LFRH), or Lanvéoc (LFRL), and perform one or more Precision Approach Radar (PAR) approaches.

It is strongly recommended that you read the documentation on how PAR works and on PAR phraseology.

Attention: Landivisiau and Lanvéoc are prohibited to public air traffic (CAP). Therefore, pilots whose destination is one of these airfields must obtain a PPR, which can be found in the Pilot Briefing .

Any aircraft bound for Landivisiau or Lanvéoc that does not have a PPR entered in Item 18 will be redirected to Lorient.

Also remember:

  • Be ready and have your charts readily accessible;
  • Upon arrival, you may be asked to follow vectors or enter a holding pattern;
  • Be patient and take care not to interrupt ongoing communications, especially when joining a frequency;
  • Don't hesitate to carry extra fuel;
  • The most important thing: Enjoy! :)
